Our UHNS Charity 500 Appeal

University Hospital of North Staffordshire has launched its ‘UHNS Charity 500’ appeal to help buy a PET CT Scanner. UHNS Charity is looking for 500 individuals, groups or companies to raise £500 each. The £250,000 appeal will support the installation of a PET CT Scanner, which the Trust purchased for £3million thanks to support from a private donor and Keele University.

PET/CT scanners aid clinicians in treating cancer patients. Dr John Oxtoby, deputy medical director, said: “The scanner uses a combination of CT scanning and nuclear medicine PET imaging to produce accurate images of cancer spread and activity in the body.  It is extremely sensitive in determining the presence of cancer and in detecting any spread of cancer to distant parts of the body. In addition, PET/CT scanning can determine how much energy a cancer is using and therefore have active it is.” Read more...

All donations are managed through the UHNS Charity which is registered with the Charity Commission (number 1054889). Donors can be very specific about which areas of the hospital they would like to support as funds are held in earmarked accounts for wards and departments, research, staff funds and general funds.
